Daniel Negreanu’s Rise from High School Dropout to a WSOP Winner
Born in Canada, Daniel Negreanu got hooked on playing poker in his teen years. The call of the cards proved to be too tempting for him and he dropped out of high school just short of graduating. His dream was to become a professional poker player and the place to do that was Las Vegas. Before he set off for the bright lights of Sin City, Daniel Negreanu had to grow his bankroll. He did that through playing poker through local games both legally and illegally.
The first go around for Daniel Negreanu proved to be too much for him in Las Vegas and he had to return home to earn more money and build his bankroll back up. Two wins at the 1997 World Poker Finals however turned the tide in his favor. He was named the best player at that tournament and followed up with a significant win in the 1998 World Series of Poker or WSOP, the youngest at the time to do so. He swept Limit Holdem and earned himself a WSOP bracelet.
Daniel Negreanu, aka Kid Poker, started racking up wins, becoming one of the top players in the tournament circuit. In fact, he has gone on to win several more World Poker Tours as well as another few WSOP bracelets.
Late 2005 brought quite a few changes in the life of Daniel Negreanu. He got married in August, and then gave up his position as a casino resort’s house poker player in October. In December, he launched his own poker room online along with a host of forums that talked about poker and a blog.
The ability to read certain tells in his other opponents is what helps Daniel Negreanu win a lot of poker games. He is also versatile, writing a lot of magazine articles and teaching poker online. In addition, you can count Daniel Negreanu in as a book author as well. Then there are the many appearances on television, both as a host and player.
Daniel Negreanu is a man of many talents and is respected in the world of poker. That respect of his peers earned Daniel the title Favorite Poker Player of the Year by Card Player Magazine in early 2006.
