Johnny Chan is one of the most recognized faces in poker. He has definitely done his part in taking the game to the next level.

Johnny Chan was born in China, but moved to the United States with his family in 1968. At the ripe age of 21, Chan dropped out of college and moved to Las Vegas, Nevada to become a professional gambler.

Johnny Chan first started to make noise at the poker table in the last 1980’s. He won back to back World Series of Poker titles in 1987 and 1988 which solidified his spot in the game. Johnny Chan almost pulled out a third consecutive victory in 1989, but finished in second place.

Johnny Chan is most well known for placing an orange in front of him while playing. Chan stated that the only reason he keeps an orange in front of him is because of the scent; it has nothing to do with luck. Back in the 80’s smoking was aloud during tournaments which was sometimes a distraction to him.

In 2005, Chan managed to pull in his tenth World Series of Poker title. He is now sitting at the top of the industry with the most bracelets in World Series of Poker history.

Johnny Chan was inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame in 2002 because of all of his accomplishments over the years. If anybody deserves to be in the Hall of Fame it is definitely Johnny Chan. He has carved out his niche in the poker industry for ever.
