Patience is Not Always a Virtue When Playing Poker Online
Playing poker online is a great way for beginners to get a feel for the game and also a great place for regular players to get some time and practice in when they can’t make it to the local poker room. When playing poker in a live room, most people would say that patience is a very important virtue, that you are more likely to make money and win the game if you can hold out and not do anything hasty. However, online poker is a different animal. In an online poker room, patience is not always a virtue.
One of the reasons for this is that an online poker room is much more fluid than a traditional poker room. This means that people are moving in and out. By the time you think you’ve picked up on a pattern and are ready to move, that person has left the virtual table and someone else has taken her place. This is one reason why it is important to be aggressive at an online poker room.
Another reason why you must be more aggressive in an online poker room is the other people in the poker room. Poker is a dog-eat-dog world, and you have to be aggressive to keep your head above water in that environment. If you go into an online poker room and play aggressively, you will be up by a lot of chips before anyone realizes how quickly they are losing. By out-betting other people, you can basically intimidate them into giving you money and then folding, something you wouldn’t be able to do in a live poker game. Although this may sound unfair, it really isn’t. Online poker is a different game than real-life poker in many ways, and it is the poker player’s responsibility to adjust to that.
