Infamous or Famous? The Notoriety Surrounding Phil Helmuth Jr.
Professional poker player Phil Helmuth Jr. has earned quite a reputation on the poker circuit. Known as the Poker Brat and also Hell Mouth, a play on his name, Phil Helmuth Jr. has no problem voicing his opinions both on and off the poker tables. No matter his reputation is however, one thing is for certain. He has the respect of his peers due to his awesome playing ability and accomplishments.
Phil Helmuth Jr. dropped out of college to play poker full time. It was a move that catapulted him to win the World Series of Poker in 1989, becoming the youngest player ever to do so. As of early 2006, Phil Helmuth Jr. has won nine WSOP bracelets, all for wins in Texas Holdem.
In addition to his tournament wins, Phil Helmuth Jr. won several televised tournaments like one on the show Late Night Poker. He also makes appearances on the television show High Stakes Poker and became commentator on the wildly popular Celebrity Poker Showdown. One reason that he is so popular on these television shows is because he tends to uphold his nicknames. His behavior and colorful commentary makes for great ratings.
When he doesn’t have tongues wagging about his antics at the poker tables, you can find Phil Helmuth Jr. authoring magazine articles and poker books. He has also created several videos providing tips and strategies for poker. Then there is Phil Helmuth Jr.’s participation with the online poker site called Ultimate Bet and the development of a signature line of poker sunglasses. In addition to his busy life in the poker arena, Phil Helmuth Jr. also participates in various poker events for charity.
