Pocket Aces Not Always a Guaranteed Win in Poker

Some people get very excited when they see AA in their poker hands. Pocket aces are one of the most sought-after hands in the game of poker. However, when you stop and think about it, there is no reason why pocket aces should be so coveted. It is really just a pair, a high pair perhaps, but still just one pair, beatable by every other hand except a lower pair.

If people really stopped to consider that, they may not get so giddy when they see the pocket aces in their hands after the deal. If you want to win, you are going to have to have another ace in the flop, river, or turn, giving you three of a kind. Another pair could also show up in flop, river, and turn, and that would be great, but it sets someone else at the table up for a full house or four of a kind, both of which are hands that would beat your pocket aces.

Indeed, pocket aces are sometimes a detriment, because they give you a feeling of invincibility, when, in fact, you are in a vulnerable position. That is the worst place to be in a poker game too, thinking you are unstoppable when, in fact, your hand isn’t all that good. One thing you need to be careful of, that holders of pocket aces are particularly prone to, is missing the straight draw or the flush draw on the flop. A straight and a flush both beat your pocket aces, so you have to watch out for those too.
