Razz – A Seven Card Stud Game in Reverse
Razz is a poker game that has become increasingly popular over the last couple of years. Razz is a seven card stud game where the player with the best low hand is always the winner. Razz can be played with anywhere from two to eight players making it very easy to get a good game together.
Just like standard seven card stud, in razz each player is dealt a total of seven cards. The dealer will deal three cards facing down, and the other four turned upwards so that everybody can see them.
The objective of razz is quite simple. You are trying to make the best five card hand possible out of the seven cards that were dealt to you. One thing to keep in mind is aces are always low. Also if you get a straight or a flush it has no bearing whatsoever on the low value of the hand that is being played. The lowest possible hand that you can get in razz is A2345.
There are a couple of rules that you should keep in mind before playing razz.
1. The ante is usually 1/5 of the low limit bet, and each player must ante up before a hand gets underway.
2. After each player has one card showing, the person with the highest card must place the low limit bet.
3. There are five rounds of betting in razz poker.
Overall, razz is not a difficult game to play if you know what you are doing.
